Boesen The Florist is supporting the Alzheimer’s Association during World Alzheimer’s Month. We’ve invited Executive Director Carol Sipfle to share with you a little more about what they do and how you can help find a cure to end Alzheimer’s. Read on for some information about the cause.
- The Boesen Family
Dear Friend,
More than 5.4 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer’s disease and the number of people diagnosed each year is increasing. Alzheimer’s is a disease that not only impacts the person suffering, but also family, friends, caregivers and others they interact with every single day. Although Alzheimer’s is most prominent in people age 65 and older, it does not just affect the elderly. It is now being diagnosed at younger ages, sometimes as young as the mid-30s. Chances are you know someone whose life has been impacted by this horrible disease.
The Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Iowa Chapter exists to support people living with Alzheimer’s disease as well as their caregivers, family and friends. There are ways you can help, too.
- Wear purple on Alzheimer’s Action Day, Wednesday, Sept. 21, to show your support for ending the disease. If you’re in Downtown Des Moines, stop by either of the Boesen shops on Sept. 21 for a free purple carnation and to show your support. This offer is valid only at our 801 Grand and Kaleidoscope at the Hub locations (both located in the skywalk) in Downtown Des Moines
- Consider purchasing the Alzheimer’s Awareness Bouquet from Boesen, and $15 will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. Or, donate $5 or more to the cause through Boesen and receive $5 in Boesen Bucks to use on a future purchase.
- Participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s near you. In Central Iowa, we walk together on Sept. 24th, but there are cities around the state and country hosting walks over the next few weeks.
- Find us on Facebook and show your support by telling your friends about our page.
- Volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association. There are many opportunities to help those with the disease and their families.
The reality is, there is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s. But if we work together, we can make a difference. With your help, we can move toward our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease.
Please join us in supporting World Alzheimer’s Month. The end of Alzheimer’s starts with you.
Thank you,
Carol Sipfle
